Today after installing Java 12 on my laptop, I started seeing some issue about compiler version mismatch.

In this tutorial we will go over steps on how to fix these errors.

Error: A JNI error has occurred, please check your installation and try again

How to fix more recent version of the Java Runtime Error?

Right click on project and click on properties

Eclipse Java Build Path, Select Old JRE, Click Edit and change JRE 12

Select JRE 12

Java Compiler, Select Execution Environment 11

  • Apply changes and save.

Now just run a program again and you are all set. You shouldn’t see any error any more.

    java version “11.0.17” 2022-10-18 LTS
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 18.9 (build 11.0.17+10-LTS-269)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM 18.9 (build 11.0.17+10-LTS-269, mixed mode)

    /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home/bin/java -version
    java version “1.8.0_391”

    Please tell me what to do and how to resolve it as I have tried the with java-compiler which is set to 1.8 in the properties (as mentioned above) . If I try to make it 11, it says: JRE installed and activated is 1.8. What shall I have to change here. Do I need to switch to Java 17?

    Org/springframework/boot/SpringApplication has been compiled by a more recent version of the Java Runtime(class file version (61.0), This version of the java runtime only recognizes class file versions up to 52.0
    The problem is that my operating system is 32 bit so oracle doesn’t support a 32-bit operating system for jdk 17 so how to solve my issue

      Hi Saketh – seems like some issue related to install4j version. You may need to downgrade or upgrade install4j version as per your need.

    Since there is mismatch in the version of the compiled and run, if you type this command it will work:

    javac HelloWorld. java –release 8
    java HelloWorld
